The Way We Were is a 1973 American romantic drama film directed by Sydney Pollack. The screenplay by Arthur Laurents was based on his college days at Cornell University and his experiences with the House Un-American Activities Committee. 'The Way We Were' ,originally recorded by Barbara Streisand in 1973, was a commercial success, reaching number 1 in the United States and selling well over a million copies. The composer Marvin Hamlisch won the 1973 Academy Awards for Best Original Dramatic Score and Best Original Song.
