Close Up on Simon Rattle

In this feature Sir Rattle talks about his recording of Gustav Holst’s ‘The Planets’, which features four newly-commissioned ‘asteroids’ by composer Kaija Saariaho. Recorded with the Berlin Philharmonic, Sir Rattle talks of wanting “to look at The Planets afresh,” and that he loved the idea “of combining it with contemporary pieces [from a composer] the Orchestra has worked with, knows and loves”.
